Diabetes & Obesity Centre (DOC) is a
specialty centre providing focused care for the management of
Diabetes, Pre-diabetes, Obesity and Metabolic syndrome (a condition
characterized by presence of a cluster of risk factors for heart
disease).

DOC is headed by Dr B.M. Makkar, a
leading Senior Diabetologist & Obesity Specialist in the country.
Dr. Makkar completed his post-graduation in internal medicine from
prestigious Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi in 1987. He has
been an active member of the Indian Medical Association right from
the beginning of his career. He has contributed to the working of
the organization in various capacities and held the office of the
president of IMA Outer-west Branch in the year 2000-01.
His areas of interest are Diabetes,
Obesity & Metabolic syndrome.
He is a founder member of Delhi Diabetic Forum (DDF) and has been
office bearer of DDF in various capacities. He is also a member of
the executive board of Diabetes India, a prestigious nationwide
organization with best of the diabetes specialists in country
working for the cause of diabetes in India. He is a member of the
Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI), and is
presently treasurer of RSSDI Delhi Chapter and also finance
secretary for the national conference RSSDI 2006.
Dr. Makkar is a member by invitation
to American Diabetes Association and member of Canadian obesity
research network. He is also a trainer for Staged Diabetes
Management Program certified from International Diabetes Centre,
Minneapolis.
Dr. Makkar is widely traveled
nationally as well as internationally and has been guest faculty to
a number of national & international conferences. He recently
authored a chapter on “Obesity & Type 2 Diabetes” in the Medicine
Update 2005 published by the API (Association of Physicians of
India).
Dr. Makkar is also involved in clinical research in the field of
diabetes, obesity & metabolic syndrome.
Dr. Makkar enjoys the qualities of an
astute clinician with ever-growing quest for knowledge and its
intelligent application for the treatment of patients. At the same
time he provides that personal healing touch which all the patients
appreciate right from the time of first interaction.
Despite his busy schedule, Dr. Makkar still takes out to do charity
for the poor patients by offering free/subsidized care to many
patients in his clinic and in the community. |
